Hogwarts Houses

Students at Hogwarts are grouped into iv houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin.

When the students arrived on September i of their first year, they were met byMcGonagall, who explained the house system:

"The first-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you lot accept your seats in the Great Hall, y'all will be sorted into your houses. The 4 houses compete for House Points. Whichever house gets the most points over the course of the year wins the Firm Loving cup. These points are tracked by means of four huge hourglasses. Each business firm has a Quidditch team. These teams compete through the year as well, and the victor of the Quidditch contests wins the coveted Quidditch Cup.
